Moving away to University

It’s that time of the year where students from all over the world move away to University, Wether it be to another country, another Town or City or commuting we’re all travelling to a new place. This year i’m joining the thousands of students moving away to University as i’m travelling 2hours 45 minutes away from my home town Wigan (North West of England) to Sunderland (North East of England). I'm going to be studying Broadcast Journalism, which you'll already know if you've read the about me section.

Moving away to University is an extremely big part of the majority of students lives, we're leaving family, friends, relationships and our beloved towns behind for 3 years with the exception of visiting home for holidays. It's a daunting experience as there's so many responsibilities what come with it: cleaning, cooking, washing, decision making and most importantly being independent. I personally think i'll be able to cope with all these; plus i've been preparing for University ever since receiving my Unconditional offer back in July. I've been cooking the occasional meal, cleaning my own dishes and i've always made my own decisions.

So i move away on the 13th September, not long now and i'm really excited for freshers. Freshers seems like a massive part of every first year students life in the first few weeks at University. I'm a social butterfly so can't wait to meet some new people, and be able to explore a new City with them. The official freshers page on Facebook has been really helpful, it's been able to answer any questions about the social side of University, students thoughts on my course and i've been able to find other students on my course, and in my flat. I've already started to think like a student by, pre-packing food and alcohol ready for freshers week so that i'm not without if i do spend all my money during freshers (which i hope i don't).

I've realised that you need to be prepared and organised for University especially if like me you're moving away for it. i've been extremely lucky that my family have all helped me to get the essentials i need for university: pans, cutlery, toaster, bedding, utensils, towels, cloths and lot's more. The list could go on ... Hopefully by the end of this week i'll have everything i need to be prepared for Freshers and University. I'll also be blogging a lot more about how i'll be coping at University. If anyone has any tips on how i and other freshers can get prepared for Freshers and the rest of our University lives, please leave a comment :-).
